2011 Yahama 115hp 4 stroke grease ?

Pulled the boat out today and noticed a bunch of thick blackish silver grease almost like wheel bearing grease. There has always been some grease there but seems like way more now. What could cause this? Cause for alarm? Engine has been running fine. Thanks!

Grease

I believe it has been greased with some sort of grease that is very thin and doesn't like being used in load affected areas like the steering pivot shaft and not suitable for that application.

Yamaha makes a MARINE grease for this purpose that fits in a grease gun. Really, really good stuff.

Its turquoise in color .

For splines, mid shaft bushings you want Yamalube Multipurpose grease which is waterproof, extreme pressure.
