  • FETO200 - low power - No RPM's displaying on 6Y5 multi functioTacho

Hi Guys, We recently had a mechanic remove our 200HP FETO outboard we had some issues with the Tachos not working, so we replaced the multi-core cable. They are now working, but the RPM's are not being displayed? Also, we have had a massive loss of power? The engine will still start, but it is just sluggish and nothing like it was before the engine came off'..Any idea's what might be going on?

    Should be a 200FETO.

You say the motor (singular) was removed. Was it replaced? If so, with what model motor?

You mention tachos (plural) which I presume means two or more tachometers. Why one motor with more than one tachometer?

What is a multi-core cable? Is that the ten pin main engine harness or is it the four or eight pin trim/oil harness?

no telling what could be a problem with a motor that was put on a boat.
      testing is needed
test/make sure your alarm buzzer/system works

Motor was removed and replaced with the same motor (we added a new splash well) Yes, the 200FETO

Sorry, only 1 tacho - the other is the speedo.

The main ten pin engine harness.

The tachometer gets its RPM information via a green wire within the ten pin harness. At the key switch that green wire jumpers to another green wire that runs to the tachometer. I would check that wire.

That may fix the tach, but that does not help with the loss of power

              One solution at a time.

Strangely we noticed the loss of engine power with the loss of power with the Tacho & Speedo. Once we replaced the ten pin harness the gauges came back on but the RPMs are not showing and the engine is still gutless. Any ideas on how that may be linked would be really appreciated.

no way to say what the problem is.
need to find out if all the cylinders are getting good spark at the correct time
if that is good then you need to look into fuel issues

and I said before, make sure the buzzer /alarm works
could be it is in RPM reduction and the buzzer is broken

So the engine was removed and only work done on the boat and then the motor reinstalled. To the exact position on the transom in the exact hole position? Ie height.
The other question would be that everything that was undone, including the 10 pin cable was put back to the correct positions. This would be electrical connections that have been cleanly and correctly seated, and that the throttle cable has been connected up correctly. In this regard, check that throttle opens to it’s fullest.
Only you can determine this at this point. Pictures might allow us to spot something that might be amiss.
If this all checks out there is the possibility the removal and storage of the engine has something to do with this. Such as if it was laid on it’s side. Fuel has run out or dried, or water still in the engine has flowed to where it shouldn’t causing electrical failure or at worst corrosion within the mechanics of the engine!
