Hello again , Swapped ox66's to f225's everything went as expected, 2 questions-1- there is a sensor on the stbd side of both engines near the back with a blue wire and a black wire with bullet connectors what is it and does it need to be connected - and 2 - trim and tilt harness (pink/black wires) are connected but reading on new 6y5 tachs are topped out and flashing. Trim senders were both sticky and tight. Bad senders or improper wires connected ? Old motors were 98 ox66 225. Many thanks, C Hook

Need the complete model identity for the motor. A photo of the sensor will be helpful.

I am guessing that it might be the optional temperature sensor if it is screwed into the top of the head.

motors are f225txrb /lf225txrb Does look like a temp sensor only not on top of head but downlow on stbd side to the rear of dipstick

without a pic I cant answer the sensor question.
however I can answer the trim indicate question.
the 1998 motors used a 3 wire trim sensor, the 2001 and up motors used a 2 wire sensor.
if the tach is older than 2001 then its for a 3 wire sensor.
if the tach is an 01 and up it can be switched between 2 and 3 wire.

Good morning, yes the tach's are new, dip switches are in the proper position for two wire system ,if the 98's were a three wire system and 03's a two wire system does the pink and black wires in the original harness give power ? Thanks

            no.
black is ground and pink is send.
ONLY the 3 wire set up used a voltage and it was 5V on the orange wire.
