Howdy-
last summer I replaced the seals on my 2004 F225 steering cylinder - a Seastar HC5358 - after identifying a slight seeping leak from one of the seals. The shaft that the cylinder rides on didn’t have any major nicks or scuffs or scratches. There was a very slight dime sized discoloration in one spot and some very light marks elsewhere, but nothing a fingernail could get caught in. Realistically it was nothing I could even feel..
the seal replacement has failed. I’m 99% sure that the seals (sea star brand) were assembled and installed correctly. I think there may have been some air in the lines after the install, but that was remedied at the start of this season. The leak persists.
I’ve seen SEI rod replacements for $150 - but no other options. https://www.amazon.com/SEI-Marine-Pr...3358052&sr=8-1
Any idea if this rod and those seals are reliable?
if the best next step is a new cylinder - where is the best place to get one. Seems crazy that I can’t just get a new rod and seals from Dometic
