My 1 year old F200 gets air in the tilt trim system when I use it in cold conditions. Last week the temp was 15 deg when I towed to the lake. When I lowered the motor you could hear air in the system. Where does the air get in? I have never seen oil around the cylinders or on the garage floor.

F200 losing hyd fluid

I know it is NOT normal sound. The trim motor makes loud noise when trimming the motor. In the spring I had the same thing happening after using the boat in cold temps, the dealer said it was low on trim fluid at that time Trim sound is back to normal while using the boat over 100 hours this summer and now noisy pump sound is back. I keep the boat in garage that is above freezing. I suspect that when I tow the boat to the lake and temps are at 15 deg or below the oil is contracting and creates a vacuum that draws air in to the system. I do have extensive experience with outboards and know what the trim motor should sound like. The Yamaha dealers in my area are closed until Jan 4 so I can not take it in at this time but plan on going fishing before then.

its a showa type unit.
its also used by a lot of brp and a few others.
its noisey.
you got lied to about the oil level.
the ONLY way it can EVER get low on fluid is it leaked fluid OUT.
means a puddle on your floor.
try placing a dab of water proof grease on the trim pins occasionally.
that unit is stupidly noisy for some reason.
we have on occasion added a few tsp full of straight 30wt motor oil the help quiet it down.
my F150 tends to get noisier when cold, espesially if the trim pins are dry.
its a metal on metal contact that has to wipe in an arc.
on bass boats, flats boats and other hulls that tend to run high speeds and a lot of trim you will see the trim pins mushroom.
the ram tips are softer than the wear pads.
BRP used removable pads, yamaha did not.
your trying to tell me that a small thermal change can create a few Hg of vacuum that can draw air past an oring into a pressurized FULL hyd system yet 1300 PSI plus of hydraulic pressure wont leak out?
remember its all orings sealing not lip seals.
to properly check the fluid level tilt it up,place it on the tilt lock.
wait about 5 min.
remove the fill cap, making sure not to lose the cap oring.
level should be about the bottom of the oil fill hole.
to much oil and when you trim it down.
BOOOM
reservoir bites the dust.
