  • Consesus on head bolt thread goop?

Getting Items together to pull my heads later this week. I've searched a bunch and find different answers on what thread locker/sealant/anti seize to put on the head bolts.

My factory manual has Loctite part number 572...an equivalent is Permatex 14A.

I've read using PTFE pipe sealant...I am assuming that is products like Rectorseal I use on NPT pipe fittings?? Is there a brand/PN that will hold up in the heat of an outboard head?

Anti seize that i contains no copper/marine grade. I forget which PN I have but it's made by Permatex and meets the above.

So for the people who have pulled a bunch of heads and got them back down successfully which is it?

    Thanks!

Personal experience: to achieve proper torque service manual calls for use engine oil on head bolts threads. problem here is water leaking past gasket end gets into threads, washing away engine oil and corrode threads. what I done on my engine: used oil as recommended, but on couple last threads, 3-5 threads, applied recommended for other bolts Yamaha teflon loctite. Hope it will prevent water intrusion into threads and prevent corrosion without sacrificing sensitive torque measurement.
