Hey- I'm new here (sent from a Mako site).
I have a new to me Mako 20 with a 1989 Yamaha 175 on it.
I've been chasing a overheat issue and a poor running issue. Solved the overheating and I'm close to getting running issue resolved.
Previous owner said the boat ran fine, etc etc etc, and to resolve the issue I went about doing the basics: new fuel filters, lines, bulb, pumps, fresh fuel and some tests as well, like a compression test (about 118 across the board plus/minus 3)
I removed the top two carbs and opened them: Clean as a whistle.
Was going to blow off the lower one, but had the parts and knew it was the right thing to do, so I did and........***.
The floats were locked in place by sandy crumbly crystallized gunk. Passes clogged, air nozzle eaten up, needles seized, main jet screws broke trying to get them out and other upper passages are filled as well...all after spending 2 days soaking in carb cleaner.
So, I'm trying to replace it. No longer available.
Used...no luck at the salvage/used places. Jets and nozzles as well are NLA.
But the 150 and 200 versions are readily available. So, can anyone point me to a resource that can define the differences between the carb models? In other words, can I get a carb for a 200, say, and just swap out the nozzles jets and metering parts and end up with a 175 carb? Or are the bore sizes different?
If thats the case, can I just get 3 200 carbs and run with those?
Thanks
