I have largely limited my interest in Yamaha outboards to EFI 4-strokes - and ~75 hp and up.
Two-smoke, or carbed 4-stroke - I don't want care about it.
But this Petterson thread has intrigued me - so I've been poking around.
Boscoe posted in that thread a schematic of a F50 CDI with 13 leads -
two of which - P/W, P/B -go to the familiar trim/oil harness connector.
But I'm also seeing a schematic - on a carbed F50 - of a CDI with 15 leads -
with the additional two - and the P/W and P/B - going to a 'stand-alone' "Alert Indicator"
so in that iteration,
the CDI provides both power and ground to the overheat / oil pressure lamps
(separate power for each, to boot)
the mind reels......
