Yamaha 2003 9.9 four stroke

I have a 9.9 four stroke Yamaha around a 2003 when I start the motor I have to keep reving the motor while in drive position to keep it running if I hold the throttle all the way open the motor dies if idling in neutral the motor will run for about a minute the die can anyone suggest what could be the problem
