I bought the boat last year both motors ran great. This year I started the motor with ears on the port side and it over heated. I melted the water pump housing and impeller. The water pump has been replaced and the stream out the side is steady. The engine starts but quickly begins to cough. Water shoots out the exhaust and under the lower power head cowling behind where the lower unit attaches. If you can get the motor running and up over 2500 rims all issues seem to go away and the motor runs perfect. As soon as you come off the throttle the motor dies out and water shoots out again. It is almost like water pressure is building up and overcomes the compression of the motor and makes it stall. Pulled the spark plugs no water or foiling and compression is between 135 and 140. No overheating when running at high rmp. I am at a loss as to what to look for next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
