  • A one in a million chance - Rodbolt please help

    Hi Guys

Rodbolt I sure hope you have a few suggestions
Bee willing to bet you - You have never heard of this issue before

While changing the oil and filter in my 2007 T60TLR a Bumblebee (the large black and yellow ones) flew directly into the funnel full of oil and then went on into the engine. It all happened in a matter of a second no way to stop the #$%^%$ bee. Only had 1 quart oil in at this time along with a new Yamaha filter - drained the oil but NO BEE.

Have not started the engine .... Oil is topped off 2.6qts and new filter installed

    How bad is this?

    What should I do?

    Sure appreciate the help

The oil flows into the valve cover. Remove the cover and I suspect the bee will be there.

PETA will be in contact with you shortly about your inhumane treatment of the poor guy.

Reminds me of an old joke. How do you scare away a bee? You say "boo bee".

Sorry right now I'm NOT LOL
Actually just Pi..ed Off big time
Wished I could have won the lottery rather than have this $*$# happen

Not really worried about PETA ...............
As in People Eating Tasty Animals - after all we live in Montana
Hope to find the darn bee when I open up the valve cover

Where does the oil drain after that?
Sure hope I do not have to take the entire engine apart

        What's the worst case situation?
If I can not find the damn thing

It started off as such a good day and got worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure bee parts or the whole thing could block off some important passage way

To bee or not too bee, that is a question.

Oil flows via passageways from the valve area to the crankcase. The bee will bee stuck with the oil on some part under the valve cover.

Mouth to mouth to revive the poor fellow is not advised.

No way on mouth to mouth for that guy - he smells and is full of oil

Will I need a new gasket for the cover?

Hope to find the carcass tomorrow when I take the cover off

I'm sure Rodbolt will bee here soon...

Anyway, agreed with the above, he's/she's likely under the valve cover. That gaskets only $10.00 and if rubber, likely re-usable. He can't get very far thru that filler hole...

Find a small screen of some kind to fit in your funnel maybe.

                      Thanks for the responses

Need to get several other Yamaha parts so will add the gasket to the order

Late morning plan on opening it up and will post a picture or two

                      Thanks again

PS - I have a nice funnel with a small screen but NEVER in even gave it a thought
Think maybe this is a one in a billion occurrence

me? I would not worry much about it.
from the cam cover its a fairly large passage leading to the oil sump.
from there its a fairly large oil pickup screen.

its not gonna pass through that screen.

may make your motor BUZZ along .

Funny, upon reading this I was immediately reminded of the time, as a 17 year old back yard mechanic, I held the small air cleaner retainer nut of my 6 cyl Ford in one hand whilst moving the throttle linkage with the other - the result was startling at the time but obviously predictable - dropped the damn thing into the carburetor and ended up having to pull the head. Found it in a cylinder and still don't know how it got past the intake valve. Now why, 53 years later, that came to mind is beyond me but I do know that I will use the funnel with the screen in it when I change the oil in my F150 next week!!
