Square Gauge Compatibility

I'm assisting a friend who has 2004 F150's. He wants to replace the round gauges with the newer square ones. Are the square gauges plug and play with the existing wiring harness and the F150?

depends on if he has 6y5 round or 6y8 round.
the 04 F150 may or may not like the 6y8 stuff.

Square gauges are known as Command Link. These use a digital data bus to receive engine data versus analog wires.

A 2004 F150 (or Yamaha anything) does not support Command Link gauges, square or round. That is, Command Link gauges simply will not work with your friends motors.
