  • Problems with digital controls yamaha 6y8-we83s-10-00

Hello!, this is my first post on this forumhope to have some help please...

I have a proline 251WA in Cabo San Lucas Mexico, my boat has a fx250 4stroke motor and has some square controls installed, yamaha 6y8-we83s-10-00.

1.-Recently, my command link controls don't measure the gas capacity, actually I ran out of gas yesterday and had to get some xtra gas to get to the marina,,, my gas marker was wih 3 full bars when this happened.
Is there a way to configure the gas capacity of my tank in this command link instruments?

2.- Speedometer does not work well, if I am *****ing at 5mph it does mark speed, but if I go higher than that , it just puts a hyphen on the middle of the screen,

3.- My fuel management meter does work only when I am *****ing at 5mph, if I go higuer, it just marks a hyphen in the middle of the screen.

Is there a way to buy or get the manuals for my command link model instruments?

My motor has only 500 hrs since new

    Thanks for your help!

Does your Yamaha motor owner manual contain the command link info?
    I thought it did.

If the speedo does not work at speed then I would think that would mess up the fuel management part also.

Look for turbulence/air bubbles at the pick up of speedo

      inspect the speed pressure sensor.
there are two identical sensors on the rear of the engine.
one is mounted on the port side cowl near the rear latch the other is located on the stbd lower cam cover.
make sure the sensors hex is larger than the sensor holder hex.
carefully inspect the sensors and connector pins for corrosion.
one has a white tag on the harness marked S and the other is marked W.
if the sensor fails it can make stupid things happen and can get very expensive.

An owner's manual for the square gauges can be found here if you don't have one
        http://www.yamahaoutboards.com/sites...8Square%29.pdf

The kit number you mention is for a two gauge (square) kit consisting of a tachometer and a combination speed/fuel meter. Your post however makes mention of a speedometer and a fuel management meter. Do you have standalone speed and fuel gauges or just one combination type?

A flat line on the gauge indicates that data is not being provided to the gauge. Why your data is coming and going is obviously not right.

As Rod notes, pressure sensors are used for both water pressure and speed pressure. Early sensors were problematic. They would leak water and cause all sorts of mayhem. Check your sensors to ensure (1) they are of the latest design (see below) and (2) they do not leak at the connection point. Remove the electrical connector and look for evidence of moisture and/or corrosion.

The fuel quantity bars are driven by a fuel tank sender. The kind that most boats come with are known to be crappy. Do yourself a favor and replace the sender with either one from WEMA Tank Level Senders, Fuel Gauges, Marine Gauges, Fuel sending units, Fuel Senders by WEMA USA, Inc. or better still Centroid Products CENTROID PRODUCTS - Computerized Tank Display - Electronic Senders - capacitive fuel gauges

from what I have read the water leaks up inside the wires and gets into other devices they are attached to like the ECU, and poof they are history also.

So make sure that is not a problem

Thanks, Boscoe99, I have the combination type, the same square meter allows to read fuel management and speed,, thanks also for the link to the manual,, the detail with these square meter is that as manual mentions on page 3, that manual is not for my command link model instruments,, I will check my sensors and lines for corrosion, do you think those fuel senders you suggested are compatible with Yamaha instruments??

            Thanks again

Boscoe99, do you know the part number for the new style sensor?

                Thanks!

They both fully compatible with the Yamaha Command Link speed/fuel meter.

Become familiar with the Yamaha parts catalog. Let it be your friend.

Original part number has been replaced by part number 6AW-8366B-01-00.

2006 and Later 4-stroke Rigging Yamaha Outboard COMMAND LINK ALTERNATE SENSORS 3 Diagram and Parts

Boats.net only shows the original number. Not sure why their system has not been updated to show the superceded part number. Order it under the old number or the new number and you will get the latest part.
