1993 yamaha 150hp-help with weird noise

hello all

just a long shot here--my 1993 yamaha precision blend 150hp engine was making a faint clicking every 10 seconds or so up around the controls. Does anyone have any idea what this could be and if its something to worry about?

have you tested the alarm buzzer for proper operation?

no I haven't, but I was wondering if that was a possibility. How do you test that? I'll apologize in advance, oUtboards a completely new to me so I am pretty much starting from scratch here. . .

on your engine?
unclip the emergency stop lanyard and crank the engine.
you should have a no start and a clear audible alarm.

roger that, I got an alarm. I have traced the sound back to the hour meter--after reading and asking questions, I am pretty sure that the cheaper hour meter installed is for some reason making a louder tick than normal. Thanks
