• Battery Question

I have a 50 HP Yamaha 2 stroke mounted on a light flats boat. In the interest of weight saving and given I also have a deep cycle for my *****ing motor. What is the smallest (lightest) cranking battery I can get away with ?

Aceman,
You could check your owner's manual and it should recommend a minimum "cranking amp" capacity. But having said that, you should be able to get away with just about any size 24 "marine starting" battery - will weigh around 42 pounds.
Good luck ,

Found it 245 CCA or MCA/ABYC 323 (nothing like RTFM) looks like Interstate U911 fills the bill and it only weighs 28 pounds. Saves weight and I always have the *****ing motor battery if necessary.

Aceman,
Sounds good - make sure you have the tools to do a battery swap in an emergency. Sometimes those darned wing-nuts are a bit difficult to remove with bare hands.
You are wise to save as much weight as possible - it really makes a difference, especially in smaller boats.
