I recently purchased a 16' bowrider with a 1985 90 hp. I sent it to the shop for a maintenance check and $1000 later they said they couldn't fix it. So my dad and I tinkered with it to discover that once the motor warms up 15-20min into running the motor kicks and will run backwards, literally the flywheel reverses directions. Does anybody know what my problem is and how to fix it?

I have never seen a carbed motor run in the reverse direction,
But I have seen some old Case diesel injected tractors do it when they rolled backwards going up a steep incline, blows all the oil out of the oil bath air cleaner
How long does it run in reverse direction? -
It seems like it could run for a while but since it runs backwards it does not allow water to pump through it. So we cut it off to prevent the motor from burning up.Comment
