Yamaha grease fitting

I have a 1994 yamaha 250hp 2 stroke and recently one of my grease fittings has stopped accepting grease.
It's the one behind the prop. I've remove the zert fitting and it seems to have hardened grease in the small housing passage. What does this grease fitting lubricate? There doesn't seem to be any moving parts near it's location.

It just puts grease between brg. housing and gear housing to keep the corrision down
