  • Interminent power to fuel pump

I have a 2002 Yamaha 225 VMAX, OX66 on my Ranger 520. For the past 3 years it has run great. This year to date I have replaced the fuel pump and resistor because of problems. It seems that once motor gets hot it will just shut down while on plane. When this happens, I pull off the cowling and there is no power going to the fuel pump. I wait about 30 minutes, and then it starts working again. Even then it seems to not run on full power. It will float from 4800 rpm to 5000 and back down to 4600. My assessment makes me think a short or bad component between resistor and battery. Opinions please???? I'm running out of answers.

    Experiencing same problem

I have a 2001 vmax 200 which is doing the same thing. I have a new resistor on order but since I see you replaced yours, I'm thinking that may not be the problem. I posted a thread titled high pressure fuel pump with the id kenyjim1938. If I get any reponses, I will forward them to you.

the resistor is NOT used, its out of the loop, above 1200 RPM or so.
      so THATS not an issue.
if the pump draws more than about 5 amps it backflips the ECU.
if the ECU ground is bad it will do the same thing.
