  • Head gasket question...

Hey fellas, need some info on job I'm going to try to attempt on my own. First of all the motor is a 1984 115 yamaha, plate says 115etln. I am pretty sure one of the cylinders isnt firing and there is water on the plug when i pulled it, so thinking blown head gasket. In looking on yamaha's parts website I see there are two different gaskets it lists on the diagram. A "cylinder head gasket" and a "head cover gasket". Both are around 35 bucks. Do I need that head cover gasket? Or just the cylinder head gasket or both? Thanks for any help.

unless you are going to pull the water cover off the head you just need the cylinder head gasket..

So, you are saying its not necessary to take the water cover off for a bad head gasket? I wish I knew more about these engines, but I guess this is how one learns . Thanks for the info!
