Dumb question easy answer on battery hook up

I need some help determining which lead is positive and negative before I hook up an old 92 Yamaha 30hp to a battery to fire it up. I'm confused because one of the leads is black with red ends, and the other is red that is painted black by the previous owner. I don't want to fry anything. Can somebody give me the easy answer. I've attached a pic for reference, it's of the starter where the 2 wires end up. Sorry for the beginner question.

the lead on the bottom left of the starter is the red lead, B+, the one on the top of the starter is the ground lead, Black..

The previous owner painted a red wire black to indicate neg (-)
