1990 50hp yamaha shifting

I have 1990 Yamaha 50hp outboard that is hard to get forward. Getting in reverse is easy. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

mechanical damage in the gearcase,mechanical damage/obstructions in the shift bracket, bad shift cable,worn parts in the control box.
that's about it.
