  • F90TLR noise in powerhead

    Re: 2006 F90, 700+hrs.

I went out fishing and started to hear a noise coming from the powerhead I immediately shut down and called Tow US.

When the engine is in idle I don't hear the noise. When I put in gear I immediately hear the noise. It sounds like a click or tap on metal. When I increase the throttle the noise also increases.

While I was on the water some guy tried to help, I started the motor, he listened, he said that it sounds just like the noise he had on his brand new 150 w/70hrs. He said the mechanic said it was the upper bearing.

Hoping that it was the tension pulley I took off the bonnett and shroud and listened but it sounds like the noise is coming from underneath the flywheel.

I looked at the oil and it looks ok. I changed oil ~5hrs ago.

Any suggestions on how I might analyze this problem?

Take it to a good Yamaha shop with a Master tech, you keep running it and things can go very bad if it is a bearing or piston problem

Sounds like lower unit gear problems. Take a look at the oil draining screw(it got a magnet) and see if there are metall particles on the magnet+ev. gray oil.
