Posting for my neighbor.
He has a 200 HP V6, 2 stroke engine, approx year 2005, oil tanks still installed. His main RPM gauge died sometime ago, the idiot alarm lights don't work either.
Some history. We changed the water pump some time ago (about 3 years), pee's like a race race horse (he does flush after salt water use). Carbed engine, we cleaned the carbs about a year ago, ran fine. He does keep a fuel stabilzer in the fuel.
Last week, while out on the water, the engine goes into limp mode while running past (approx) half throttle (22 MPH, 21' CC) and the buzzer alarm goes off as well. At full throttle, it'll run maybe 20 seconds before automatic shut down.. As stated ealier, the pisser is still pumping water fine.
Turn off the engine for approx 30 seconds, re-start, alarm re-sets. As long as you keep the engine under 22 MPH (again about half throttle), runs fine, no alarm.
Does this sound like perhaps the water sensor is corroded up in the block causing a false overheat signal to the ECU? We haven't pulled any oil from the tanks yet to check for any potential screen clogging..
Thanks ahead of time.
