• Ring Free instructions???

Instructions on Ring Free say to use 2 oz/ gallon to shock treat, and 1 oz / 10 gallons for normal use.

THEN, the instructions say to run 64 gallons if a 200 hp motor.

Which is it? By my math, shock treating would be using 1 quart of Ring Free and 16 gallons of gas. Normal use would be using 1 quart of Ring Free per 320 gallons.

Where the heck does the "RUN 64 GALLONS" comment come from? Any tips any professionals might have would be greatly appreciated.

When running a shock treatment mix 2oz ringfree per gal of gas for 1 tank of gas or 64 gal's which ever is greater.

No-Sweat,
You might consider doing your "shock treatment"
with SeaFoam, another fuel additive that is a strong detergent. Some owners, like myself, prefer Seafoam.
Since I can't get my "edit-copy-paste" function to work , I will refer you to my post dated May 27, 2005 to "CLL" under "waterpump and maintenance questions" - page 21.
Good luck ,

Hey Ken and No_Sweat,

Here you go:

CLL,
Two strokes build up a lot of carbon internally and need to be de-carbonized by doing a "shock treatment" with a detergent like Seafoam.
I like to do the shock treatment once a year on my C115 - in late winter when I am going thru my list of "spring make-ready".
If you use a detergent like Yamaha Ring Free all the time in your fuel tank, then the carbon buildup is not as bad. Still, a lot of 2-stroke owners will de-carbonize once a year - you will get various opinions on this.
I "shock-treat" my C115 by running the following mixture thru it. This will smoke up the area pretty good, and leave a lot of carbon on the drive way:
16 oz can Seafoam
3/4 gal gas
3 oz oil (2 if oil injected)
Disconnect the fuel line at the input to the bulb and attach a three foot piece of fuel line to the bulb. Mix the above in a small container -
I use an empty 5 quart oil jug. Set the container on the deck of your boat and insert the fuel line and secure to make sure the end stays on the bottom of the container. Pump up bulb and start outboard with earmuffs and water hose, of course -run a little above idle for 15 minutes and turn off. Let sit for 15 minutes. Run again for 15 minutes. Let sit 15 minutes. Repeat until all mixture is consumed. Reattach main tank hose to bulb and run regular fuel/mixture thru motor for 10 minutes - you want to get the concentrated detergent out of the fuel system.
Now, clean up the drive way before your wife sees all that nasty carbon and makes you get rid of your boat.
Good luck,
Ken K

Thanks, Tripleb, now, can you tell me what is wrong with my browser? I am using AOL6/MS Explorer. I can click on "Edit-Copy" from the menu at the top of the screen. That works, because I can then click on "File/New" and the OS opens up the default word processor and I can then do an "Edit/Paste" and the info is entered.
But when I try to do the same within the message post window of this forum, I get nothing - just a blinking cursor .
Any ideas?
Thanks, Ken K

Tripleb,
You are welcome anytime - maybe we can even go and wet a hook and drink a few of your favorite beverages .
I really think the problem is with AOL/MS browser - I will have my son take a look at it when he comes home for Christmas - he's one of those computer geeks that understands this kinda stuff.
Good luck ,

Ken, go to Tools>internet options>delete cookies>delete files, check offline>clear history, this will clear/clean your cache which is probably full. this is all on an internet explorer page at top.

Thanks, jb, but there is no "Tools" to click on at the top of this AOL browser - but I will have my son take at look at your suggestion when he gets here.
I'm thinking maybe I can minimize the AOL browser, and open up another - maybe Netscape or pure MS Explorer.
Thanks, again,
