What does the pressure control valve do ?

it relieves excessive water pressure inside the block, it can also cause issues if it does not work correctly, if it is stuck closed it can overheat at high rpms. if it is stuck open it can over heat at idle. the water pump is capable of high water pressure, over 30 psi,, the pressure control valve keeps it at a minimum usually about 18 psi at high rpms. -

Thank you for explaining what it does.That sounds like what is wrong with my motor.It runs good at around 4000 RPM's but over that it sets the alarm off and i shut down and 2 minutes later it starts back to normal.If the alarm is still on if you crank it with in 2 seconds alarm shuts off.Thank you very much.
