The odds of you having a septic tank system on board your boat is unlikely to say the least. You probably have a holding tank, located under your head. There are two ways to empty it, depending on your setup. You need to see if you have a valve that allows you to empty the tank overboard or have it pumped out through a fitting on your deck. As you are in Long Island, it would be illegal to dump effluent in the pristine waters surrounding you. You need to look on your deck on the same side as your head for a deck fitting marked waste, it will look similar to your water and fuel fillers. If your not sure if you have found it give it a sniff--and you will know for sure. Most marinas have a pump out station, ask the dockhand. You then connect the pump out line to the fitting and the tank is pumped out, often using a vacuum system.. If you have that valve (called a diverter valve) make sure it is opened to allow the waste to flow out of the deck fitting.
