Fuel Fitting Leak

Has anyone had any fuel leak problems with the new twist lock fuel line fittings? My 6 gallon portable tank leaks where the fuel line connects to the fuel tank. Last time I disconnected it gas sprayed out like the bearing inside the fuel side was stuck. It may have been because of the compression though.

Any help would be appreciated.

not yet, but I know its coming.
the EPA mandated a change in tank venting and now the tanks will pressurize themselves due to thermal expansion to 3-5 PSI.
best way to unclip it is first loosen the cap to relieve tank pressure.

So the new EPA tanks can breath In, but not Out?

It's like the tank doesn't vent until you pull the cap off. Could the pressure be the cause of the leak? It doesn't leak where the fuel line connects to the motor.

I can't really see a "ventless" gas tank...especially with my 12 gallon tank sitting in the back of the boat right in the hot sunlight!??

yes you can see it, it starts looking like a football.
it should not leak though.
that was the reason for the new design twist lock fittings,
its also why all new hulls since jan 2010 with built in tanks have charcoal canisters and vapor accumulators.
EPA says no more venting directly to the atmosphere.

Sounds like there will be a lot more fuel spills as when the primer bulb and lines get pressured up the weak link will be found.

Years ago I had an OMC metal tank pressure up sitting in the sun in back of boat, primer bulb swoll up and popped dumping fuel mix into boat. What a mess.

To the OP, I have not seen the new connector, but if it is leaking when hooked up , you probably need to replace an o-ring or the fitting

twist lock fuel leaks

I've had a 2012 outboard for over a year now and have gone through 3 twist lock connectors. It's a shame that Yamaha has designed something "out of necessity" to meet EPA requirements that seems to have made matters worse. The new twist locks are pieces of crap! They seem to be failing because the tiny "O-rings" are going bad! And to make matters worse Yamaha is not selling replacement O-rings for the twist lock fittings as they had been doing for the old style barb connectors. Instead of buying a 15 cent o-ring they require us to purchase a new twist lock for $20. What a rip. I hope others with similar issues continue to post so they are aware of a serious issue evolving over a simple o-ring. Oh and by the way, it is not just any o-ring it is a special design that can't be replaced with standard style buna-n O-rings. Thanks EPA and Yamaha -- I never had issues like this with the old style connectors. New design-more leaks. It is time for them to revisit and come up with O-rings that are available to the consumer or redesign!

there is now a recall on those twist lock fuel connectors, recall number O2013-007R, this is related to F4-F70 engines, but it involves the connectors you are talking about..

best I can tell it applies to all the new style fittings.
the fix is going back to the original design.
there is a recall for the new style tanks,hoses and fittings.
check with your local Yamaha dealer.
