  • Any downside to swap F40 for old T25

I have a T25TLRD on my 30' Endeavour sailing catamaran. It of course is a displacement hull under power. The T25 works out well and I get about a gallon an hour at 33 hundred RPMs and about six miles per hour. The max displacement hull speed is 8 to 8.5 miles per hour.

I am thinking of replacing it (age) with an F40LA. The 40 is only 12 pounds more weight. The 40 supports all the functions of the multi-function tach. The 40 is fuel injected not carb like the T25. There are lots of 40's so parts are more readily available than for the T25's. What I loose is the high torque, low gear ratio lower unit.

Anyone see any problems with this switch to use an F40 on a large displacement speed craft? Will I have problems in reverse? Fuel economy suffer? What do you think?

No one has any experience with F40's and displacement hulls like houseboats?

it will fine the only thing is make sure that your fuel is well filtered as carb motors are more forgiven than efi motors. as for fuel usage it most likely be better.

f 40 ht motors preform great on house boats

Thanks Mitch! I only use straight gas and keep a small tank so it turns over frequently. The F40 will have two filters anyway.

What props do they swing on those houseboats? Do they go to the dual thrust to help with reverse? Thanks!
