I am not sure of the exact model as the engine has been painted and the plate is no longer on it with the serial number!

Anyway i am having a couple of problems with the engine,

Firstly although the engine starts pretty easily, at idle it runs then occasionally (every few mins) sneezes and stalls. The Engine has been sitting for a few months, and the sneezing is a lot less frequent after I gave the engine a good run, so I am suspecting that this is caused by dirty carbs! Other than taking the carbs off and cleaning them is there any other way to diagnose this?

The next issue is that the acceleration and hole shot is great, but at WOT the engine reaches good RPM's then backs off slightly. Not enough to come off plane or anything but just enough to notice. Not sure of the RPMs as the Tach is not working!

I am just concerned that I may be running the engine lean, and don't want to cause any damage.

Just wondering if in 23 years have the carbs ever been removed and cleaned? That lean sneeze would worry me some. Maybe drain each carb to check for water or debris in float chambers? A carb cleaning could be a good investment in the future running of your motor. Good Luck!

As a stop gap for cleaning the carbs get a couple gallons of fresh gas, add some liquid carb cleaner and run it directly thorough the engine. Just attach a hose to the primer bulb and let it draw directly from the fresh gas/carb cleaner mixture. Disconnect the aux hose and reattach to the fuel tank and run engine. In the fall pull carbs and clean completely then reinstall

Yep, I may have a go at stripping them off on the weekend. Just want to use the boat on Sunday!

Another thing on the engine is that the temp guage appears to work, but only gets to just over 100deg, and the water coming out of the engine is cool. Pressure out of the pisser is strong, as I just replaced the water pump. I am suspecting that the thermostats have been removed by the previous owner, but the bolts are siezed in and cannot get them out to check. So long as the pisser is cool though I assume it should be OK to run?
