  • Yamaha 4 stroke F80 carb synchronization

    Hello

I recently bought a second hand boat with a Yamaha F80 4 stroke outboard engine with 105 hours.

I asked the mechanic to change oil and spark plugs but he somehow proceeded to remove and clean the carburetors - he said the engine was not running smoothly.

After that it seems the engine is not revving smoothly but it backfires through the carbs when revved. We started to mess with the fuel mixture adjust screws and also with the throttle screws with varying results.

I have read elsewhere that the proper procedure is to use a carb synchronization kit (some sort of pressure gauges) but we have no such tools here.

Is there a way to adjust the carbs so we get a smooth running engine even if not 100% perfect using basic tools ?

    Many thanks

    not really.
you have to use a 4 channel manometer to sync the shutters prior to playing with the mixture screws.

        carb sync

        Hi!

I do have a F80a (carby) and also needed carb tune.

I do not use gauges for my F100A anymore . I do not like the permanently vibrating indicators .
I made a very simple but efficient tool made of a few meters transparent hoses and a few ml of ATF oil - see attached pictures .
          The lower cylinder I use as a reference and adjust nr 2 / 3 / 4 accordingly .
My F100 runs very smooth and better than before when I used the gauges .
          Cheers - Jürgen
