first off, its a switch.
and yea it can be easily tested.
can you post the wire colors that are on the engine tank swtch assy?
sensors lead on to belive a varying feed back, not the case here.
3 switchs in the engine tank and all 3 are either on or off.
key on engine off.
dissconnect the switch.
jump brown to black. pump should run.
then jump white to black.
pump should stop.
all jumping is done on the engine side of the connector.
low voltage at the yellow wire for the control module will also turn on the pump.
Can I just test continuity at the switch connector?
If I do the jumpers as you suggest, and the pump turns on and overflows the tank on the engine again
Thanks,
Stan
Tested continuity of the switch.
Red/Blk wires are shorted when the float is at the bottom, or empty.
Blk/Wht wires are shorted when the float is at the top, or full.
Plugged the switch back in and situated so that the float was at the top of the switch (full) and turned the key on. Within about 5 seconds, the pump turned on to pump oil to the engine.
if you drain the tank, remove the switch and screen assy, retrive the seal.
then test the switch in all 3 positions.
then reinstall with the screen to switch oriented correctly and a new seal
see what I am saying is the easier of the two testing methods?
its why I made master tech, I actually understand the system and the various things its doing at the same time.
if by testing with a jumper it works than its quite possible the engine tank switch is bad, if not keep hunting.
low battery voltage, or a bad ground, at the oil control module will turn the transfer pump on.
1990-1995 2.6L used the trim sensor to keep the pump OFF.
Sorry,
I didn't have a clip lead do you as you asked. I'll get one tomorrow.
I understand that you know what you are doing, and that you are the pro.
I'll get back to you after I do what you have asked.
Thanks,
stan
OK, I used the jumper lead to do as you asked.
Batt. On, Key Off, disconnected the connector and jumped the wires on the engine side of the connector.
Pump does not turn on when I jump the brown to black.
then I suspect your engine oil tank switch is bad.
white to black is pump off command, brown to black is pump on command.
red to black is pump on 2nd command, audible, visual and RPM reduction.
still check voltage and grounds at the module.
