  • throttle control box issue

Recently I went to take the boat out. Engine trimmed down with no problem and started right up. When i went to power off the boat, trimmed the engine up and it wouldn't move! The throttle control (whole unit) is old. It is probably an easy fix to get the engine to trim up with fixing the up/down switch, however the mechanic said that the throttle control box isn't right for the yamaha engine. I have had problems putting the boat into gear where it would just rev up like a car in neutral. Other times, it works with no problem. He advised that a new throttle and control box (I don't know much about boats) would fix the issue. $250 bucks for a new one...

My question is, will this help the boat get into gear and eliminate other potential issues? does a yamaha motor need a special throttle/control box?

If the engine will shift and throttle by hand with control cables disconnected at engine without any problems then new control box and cables may resolve problem.
