Fine parts in Gearbox.

1985 Yamaha 90HP 2 Stroke. No forward, yes reverse. Take apart (long story). Discover 'server' snapped at the neck. Buy another (expensive part being only 5cm/2inches long). Put all back together, have manual. Take boat out and lost forward after 2 minutes. Bring home, take apart and new part broke, same as the old one. Snapped in the neck. Ok, this part slides into the propeller shaft and joins up with the clutch dog. The clutch dog slides back and forth to engage gear. I just don't get why it is snapping on me. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks. John.

either the dogs on the clutch are rounded or the dogs on the gear or both.

Can I turn the clutch dog around and use what use to be the reverse side on the forward side.

No don't turn around, replace it.

cant flip it and if the dogs on the gear are rounded a new clutch wont help.
