  • 1987 150ETXH oil overflows. HELP

My onboard oil tank has been overflowing for 2 years. Engine has been serviced by official Yamaha center twice for this problem. Both time they replaced the float and said unit tests good. I have personally replaced the float once and the ECU twice. I have tested the unit carefully and at first it seems to function properly. But actually what happens is each time the engine is started the sub pump runs for a short time regardless of oil level in the onboard tank. So with repeated start stop like when we are skiing, the onboard tank overflows and makes a mess. (We have since added overflow tubes so we don't pollute) After more than $1000 dollars spent we have no solution. This is an 'upgraded' ECU. The wiring is somewhat different and need to run a cable (supplied with ECU kit) to a terminal on the CDI. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution? Thanks for your help.

Check wiring connectors and recheck wire from new style oil module to CDI box is wired correctly, check all ground wire connections are clean and tight.

What might be the model for your particular Yamaha motor?

Not all Yamaha motors are created equally.

A 1984 25 HP is one thing. A 2007 VZ300 is something altogether different. I suspect your model is somewhere between the two.
