it is not normal once rings are seated properly
It is something that happens to a 4 stroke motor running too cold, over propped, or *****ing(low RPM operation) too much.
Not normal but a frequent occurance on 4-stroke engines. I had 2-quarts of gas in my F250 at 7.5 hours. Changed oil and ran motor 4-6K RPM, gained another 1/2 quart in the next 12.5 hours. Changed oil at 20-hours, ran engine normally and have not gained any in the next 17-hours.
