  • 40HP 4-stroke tarnished carbs?

My motor is a 2000 and my problem is the motor starts to miss at hi rpms after being wide open for about 1 or 2 minutes. After it sits overnight at the dock, it fires up fine, runs smooth at low idle and runs fine at hi rpm for a few minutes then the problem starts all over and eventually completely looses a cyl.. I've been told by mechanics it's the carbs fouling up and my motor has a problem with very small jets. They clean the carbs for $250 then I'm good for another year-to expensive and time consuming! My gas tank vent is open, no water in the tank, new plugs, water pumps fine, fuel filters ok. I've been using Yamaha Ring Seal(makes the motor last longer?). So my questions are: what can I do to prevent carbs from fouling? Would any of you kind folks have any other info. on this problem? Thanks

    Hello DavesDecoys,

Use a gas additive that is designed to keep gas from going "bad". (Sea Foam, Stabil, to name a couple)

The ring free product is designed to keep carbon build-up at a minimum.

does your buzzer work correctly as it almost sounds like rpm reduction.

Thanks for the replies guys! I bought some Sta-bil last night and will try that after they clean my carbs.. I also asked them to check the buzzer. I also wondered if maybe I put to much Ring Free in my gas because I accidentally went alittle overboard with the stuff. That wouldn't plug the jets would it? Thanks again guys!
