A friend has a 2004 Yamaha two stroke that will not accelerate from idle unless the emergency starter valve is switched from normal to open. When this is done, it will accelerate to 1500 rpm and if the emergency starter valve is switched back to normal it will accelerate and run normally and sweetly through the whole range, until it returns to idle at which point the above procedure is needed again. Could this be a fuel pump problem? Are there other ideas what could cause this behaviour? Many thanks

Have you tried cleaning the carbs? I had a similar problem with mine and the carbs needed cleaning. Only took about an hour to do...you can re use all of the gaskets as long as they are not damaged. Also make sure you do not get any carb cleaner on gaskets cause this will damage them over time. If that doesn't work, check your fuel lines are all sealed and hose clamps installed on all connections.Carolina Skiff 16' JVX
