Gas Gauge Problems

I have a 22 ft Nautic Star with a 2005 Yamaha OX-66 saltwater series. The teleflex gas gauge is not working. I have read every thread on here before attempting to trouble shoot my problem.

With the key off my gauge shows empty, key on and it jumps to full and stays there. Below are the things I have done;

1. took the center post pink wire and grounded it to the negative and the gauge goes to full. Everyone says if it does this the gauge is good, change the sending unit.

2. I changed the sender and it still does the same thing

3. I checked the voltage to the gauge and I am getting 12 volts.

4. I took a new wire and ran it across the deck from sender to gauge and still shows only full.

5. Can it be the gauge? What else can I try? HEEEEEEELPPPPPPPPP

Disconnect pink wire at gauge and check resistance between pink wire and ground while moving float on sender from empty to full to see if resistance increases and decreases as move float, if does then probably a bad gauge.
