  • Yamaha 115 Tachometer reads 0

New to forum as far as posts, have been reading it for quite some time. Great information.

I have a 2008 115 Yamaha I just bought on a Northriver Bayhawk. The motor has 26 hrs. Just out of extended warranty last month wouldn't you know it. The first couple of time out the tach worked fine. Last time it read 0 all other functions worked ok. Motor worked fine. Any ideas as to what the cause could be and is there any way of checking the tach to see if it is the problem?

It's a pretty good bet that it's a loose or corroded wire, connection or fuse. Turn your motor on and jiggle the wires to the tachometer and it may lead you right to it. Also check in-line fuses for corrosion. The high moisture and vibration in the marine environment can give electricals a fit. Clean and tighten connections and a bit of grease on each one can help keep the moisture off it. Good Luck!
