  • Yamaha 200 shift rod bracket snapped

I was installing the lower unit on my 2001 200hp 2 stroke yesterday.
I did not lign up the shifter spline correctly and tried to use the bolts to draw it back together , ever so slowly .
I blew it big time , heard a click noise , and I now see that I have snapped the aluminum shift rod bracket !

how much trouble have I created for myself now ???

It looks like I have to tear down the whole cowl???

Please advise , and thanks .

If you are talking about the bracket at top of upper shift shaft then would have to remove engine and pull shift shaft out through bracket.

this is the aluminum bracket that is held in place by two bolts

it is a clean break and i will attempt epoxy fix first

thanks for the info , ugh!!

Maybe you're talking about that aluminum shifter rod seal housing that sits on top of the lower unit with hex bolts holding it down? If so, it could be a relatively easy/cheap fix. I can't think of any other aluminum parts associated with the shifting mechanism. A photo here would help! Sorry for your problems!

If you can take a picture or find/post the exact part from this website would help: Yamaha OEM Parts ? Outboards, Outboard Motors

You can look up all the parts for your engine... BTW, I wouldn't trust epoxy on a shifter rod. Is the broke end up in the mid section or attached to the lower unit?
