The outboard in question is a Yamaha 2006 F90. The rig is used in salt water but is kept clean and lives in the garage most of the time. The tilt/trim works just fine but I noticed the two following issues:
- A few months ago I noticed a small amount of oil on the top of the tilt/trim cylinder. I assumed the rod seal might be leaking but I haven't noticed it again even after using it. Could this have been a few drops that were somehow dripped from the powerhead?
- When roading back from the coast (about 100 miles) I arrived home to find the engine was tilted up a few more degrees than when I left. I use a transom saver and it was being suspended in place by the two bungee cords at each end. I have no idea why this happened except to guess that maybe the over-the-road bouncing caused the engine to bounce somewhat. Perhaps there were some leaking check valves in the tilt/trim that permitted the engine to bounce up but not down. (?)
Your comments are appreciated.
