8hp yamaha 2 cycle carburator problems

I am usually pretty mechanically ept, but without taking the engine off my sailboat, I can't figure out how to open, drain or remove the carburator to clean it or get to idle down. Someone mentioned a drain in the bottom of the float bowl - I couldn't find the float bowl, never mind the drain. Someone else mentioned Johnson/Evinrude 2-4 carb cleaner... thoughts?

The carb is not hard to get off, but probably does needs to have carb removed and cleaned.
