  • High pressure fuel pump and VST question

    2003 F115TLRB:
I read in the manual with the key ON you should get about 41psi on the injector rail and about 36psi with engine RUNNING. This tells me that the hp pump should be running with key ON even if not not engaging the starter. Am I wrong? I only get voltage to the hp pump when engageing the starter.
I'm wondering if I'm reading the shop manual wrong.

Bench tested this hp pump that is located inside the VST and runs.

BY the way, the filter under that pump in the VST was 95% clogged. Was hopeful that was my problem but after reassembly engine still ran rough.

Also, the needle valve on top of the VST tank: Even with engine running, fuel will not come out of needle when pressed in. I'm thinking it should. I can't tell if VST tank is full of fuel. Will now test low pressure pump mounted on back of engine

I still need to send out the injectors for cleaning, testing.

Any comments or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

at key on the pump will run for 3-5 seconds and shut off.
the valve your describing is used ONLY for VST draining.
open the drain, and you have to depress that valve to allow air into the VST while the fuel is draining.
