  • 2004 F150 Questions @ start up & RPMs

    Just joined this great Forum.

Recently bought a 2005 Wellcraft 22 footer with a 2004 F150TXRD outboard. My questions are:

    1. To start up engine must crank starter for 4-5 sec. Is this normal or should it start right away? What could be causing this delay?

    2. The RPMs gage is not functioning properly. It does work but the needle moves below the 2000 mark and I know I'm at full throttle so I would expect
much higher RPMs readings. Checked the connectors behind gage and they all look in good order. Is there a voltage check I can take in order to isolate the problem?

    3. To Plane the boat is taking 8-10 sec. The prop is a 3 blade and is got a
19-M engraved on it. Not too sure if is the right size for this 4000 lbs boat.

I'd appracieate all comments @ my questions

That motor should start right up, pump the the fuel primer bulb up before starting and start with the throtlle in neutral position, don't give any throttle while starting.
Probably have a bad tach, that engine should turn between 5000 and 6000 rpm's at full throttle.
Have the engine checked to see if running properly, get tach repaired and may need to use a smaller pitch prop.
