  • 1999 f9.9 charging system upgrade

i have been searching this forum looking for some help to the following question/problem. i appologize if this is another repeat....but please help, i am sure this can be done, local dealer not much help.

here goes: i have a 1999 F9.9 with manual start i use for *****ing on a 20 foot hewescraft. i want to add a rectifier and regulator assy (6G8-8160-A1-00) and upgrade to be able to charge my auxilary 12v battery and as a safety item if i should ever drain the main battery down used to start the main engine (Yamaha 150). can this be done? do i need additonal parts? is there a wiring diagram showing colors and connections?

    Thanks, Howard

You can install an optional rectifier kit, 6G1-81970-00-00

Ordered the above rectifier and waiting for it to arrive. meantime, reading through other posts asking very similar questions about upgrading a charging system, a couple of questions hopefully you can confirm with answers...

        1. Do I have to connect the rectifier to a battery while running the 9.9 or will it destroy the rectifier?

        2. I have a two battery system for the main engine, with a typical 1,2 1+2 and off position. i plan to connect the rectifier output to battery #2. With the main engine running (Yamaha 150) and charging both main batteries, will it damage the rectifier connected to battery #2 via the 9.9?

        3. Can both the 150 and 9.9 be running at the same time?

        4. Do i need to fuse the +12v lead from the rectifier? what size, kind?

        Thanks, Howard

Yes the battery leads need to be connected.
Yes you can connect it battery 2 and run both engines.
Best to use a 20 amp fuse or breaker at battery connection.
