2001 Yamaha OX66 225 on a 2270 Pursuit
My outboard will not go to full throttle and acts as if the engine is being starved of fuel. The engine normally push the boat 30 MPH at 4000 RPM. Now if I can get to 4000 RPM's the boat only goes about 20 MPH (same load configuration). Idles great, runs good at low RPM, no excessive smoking. Just cuts out at high RPM.
The fuel bulb will get hard, but will not hold pressure. The little clear filter bowl on the engine will fill up when the bulb is pumped, but will drain out a little in a matter of minutes. I cannot see any fuel leaking around the low pressure fuel pumps, fuel filter, or anywhere else on the engine. When I pump the bulb the fuel actually comes out of the prop/skeg area.
Little bit of history: I took my tilt cylinder off to get the seals replaced. I left the outboard tilted up on the maintenance stands for about a week or two. I noticed a bad fuel smell in the cabin area. I put the tilt cylinder back on when I got it back and took the boat out. It's been having this problem ever since.
Could the low pressure fuel pumps going bad cause fuel to come out of the prop area? Again I cannot see any fuel leaking from the tank to the VST.
Any ideas?
