i have a 1999 200hp. its been sitting about 9 months. would not start.batteries dead. bought new batteries. now i get a rapid clicking with the trim and it will not start. similar clicking noise. help.

SX200TXRX, means its a saltwater series OX66 3.1L engine.
you most likly left off a ground wire at the battery.
the rapid clicking is the system trying to operate on a reduced current flow.
either your battery connections are loose or you missed a cable at the reinstall.
double check and post back

thanks rodbolt. i did check the grounds and i replaced all cables exactly as they where. i also tried bypassing the switch and hooked battery 1 directly and i get the same clicking

that rapid clicking is a sign of low voltage at either the start relay or the stater.
same with the trim.
some where a connection is loose or missing.
as the current draw exceeds whats avalible the relays rapidly drop in and out.
thats the clicking your hearing.

well, tonight the tilt motor worked for about 30 seconds then the clicking again. i cleaned the ground connection and nothing. still clicking away.

is there a way to test the ground cable?

A voltmeter will show where the voltage drop/ Bad connection is located
