200txrs charging gauge

I have a 94 200TXRS with newer digital gauges (2 years old) that will not give me a digital charging reading when I am running (or not running). I cannot move the gauge to the BATT position by pressing the "mode" switch. The arrow remains in the trip mode and will not change. I like to see how my system is charging while I am in the middle of the Ocean! When I first turn my key on the 3 arrows show up in the 3 positions (trip, time, BATT), but then the arrow goes to trip all the time. I unhooked all the electrical connections on the motor a year ago when I replaced my steering arm, and my charging gage worked after I pull all back together, but now it does not work? What wires should I check?? Thanking you in advance for your help .............AL

It uses the same wires to power up gauge which is the Yellow and Black wires, the speedo sometimes will have two black wires make sure both are connected.
