Diital Tach - will it read prior hours?

I have a 2005 90 TLRD. If I buy a yamaha digital multifunction tach, will it show the hours i've previously put on the motor?

Also, if i'm replacing an analog tach, is it a direct replacement (i.e., simply disconnect the analog & plug in the digital), or do i have to replace the wires...i guess since i have no hour meter now i'll have to at least be adding wires...

...basically is it something most folks can do themselves or will i most likely end up spending $$ to have my dealer install it

depends on the analog tach your replaceing.
if it had the oil and overheat visuals then the trim/alarm harness is there. if not you need one.
no the hours will start at 0 but its all part of the basic tach wiring.
can ya plug connectors together?
