My skeg is badly bent and already been fixed a couple times but I can not find a used or new replacement skeg for my motor. It is bolted on underneath the gears with six bolts just like the 50's-60's Johnson/Evinrude.
Are you referring to the entire lower unit with the gears inside? If your skeg is bent that bad, maybe saw off the bent part, cut/fabricate one from a piece of maybe 3/8" or 1/2" aluminum plate and get it welded on, sand/grind it smooth, spray paint it, good to go! Good Luck!
I just found out today that it is an international model. I just got this motor. As you can see in the picture it is in bad shape. It is cracked pretty high up and already JB welded on the inside to prevent oil from leaking so I am not sure how well it would work if it was frabricated? Might not have a choice though?
I have never seen anything like that before.
must be home made and added to the lower unit by drilling and bolting on.
If it is cracked into the oil cavity you will more than likely need to buy the factory made part for that motor or have it cleaned up and welded. hard to do with JB on it.
